A Fortune 500 oil and gas services firm needed to extract more value from its Gulf of Mexico wireline logging operations by scheduling work differently and/or with a different pricing structure. Working with field managers, Icosystem analyzed the operations, built an agent-based model of demand, the dynamics of crew, equipment and rigs, connecting the model to the business unit’s P&L. Eli Lilly contracted with Icosystem to create a comprehensive computer model of Chorus, a large pharmaceutical R&D organization. Chorus was used to study how and where bottlenecks interfere with the development process and are “exacerbated by the flux in prioritization in portfolio management, [which] essentially sends ripples through the system.” Chorus has been able to significantly cut both the time and cost of development through proof of concept.
